I hope to see everybody that’s in Los Angeles there.
I havent posted in a while. A lot has happened. But my experience in Los Angeles has been great. This last week really encompasses everything I’ve been up to.
Last weekend I gave my lessons at school of rock and rehearsed the clash show (which is tomorrow at the mint at one). Needless to say, this experience has been amazing. Everyone at the school has been great from the minute I came in. The kids impress me every single day and I’m very honored to be able to provide anything.
On Monday I got another translation to do. This is another survey. It really helps me fine-tune my skills. Besides that, the additional income is fantastic.
Throughout the week I have been working at a studio, helping with their remodel. There was a lot of cable to be pulled and put back in. It completely tore up my hands. But it is worth it. Physical labor is not something i shy away from.
Wednesday night I rehearsed with my new project. JR Black. Sylvain Demuizon (bass player from miss derringer) does Johnny Cash covers in French. And we’re getting ready for a gig February 11 at the Bootleg Bar. Everything sounds great. Sylvain is a big soccer fan too, so we manage to end up talking about the EPL a lot.
Besides that, I’ve been hanging out with my buddy Ryan. I met him at the house I live in now. Which is full of guys. Over 20 guys. It seriously feels like a big frat house, with no frat guys.
So thats how this past week encompasses all I’ve been up to in Los Angeles. I’ll post the info for the gig and pictures of the studio project after the break.
…is so much better. I have to say that really good weather is an incredible mood enhancer. Even with the incredible amount of uncertainty that lies ahead, I am really excited to find out what happens.
I, like many others, had a hard time yesterday, after roaming hollywood looking for a bar (which proved to be surprisingly difficult) I was able to find someone that could have a drink with me. It ended up being karaoke night at the bar that we went to, so it was an amazing way to distract my mind, and not feel completely distraught.
Today is my first day at School of Rock North Hollywood. Amazing school, and so far, amazing people..
I bought a power Mac g4 in 2001. I subscribed to Mac addict magazine, and became infatuated with the products I had already loved for a long time, but never had money to afford.
I bought a second gen iPod. I loved every bit of it.
But Apple changed my life in 2007, when I moved to Atlanta an became part of the store team at Lenox square.
They became my family, my roomate, my girlfriend, my friends and everyone that has helped me improve the most came from that store.
I became a creative, and that meant a chance to go to Cupertino.
I saw him at cafe macs. He was standing in front of me, getting a salad. And by this point I had seen all the documentaries, read folklore.org extensively, I knew about mr Macintosh and was paralyzed because of the fact that he was standing 3 feet away from me.
I had to leave apple because of personal reasons. But my Apple family is still there in lieu of my biological family, that doesn’t reside in the US.
So, to me, his biggest direct impact has been giving me a family. The warmth, the love, accomplishment and joy that I felt there I will never feel again. He created something that unites us in ways that computers and devices can’t. He gave us an open door to be a part of his dream, of his family. We are all his creation, and I just hope that I can keep learning from his lessons and be able to build a family like he did his.

I woke up really amped about going out and finding a place to stay. And I look outside and it’s pouring out. not fair. It NEVER rains here. The whole plan of walking around looking for a secondary source of income too has shot to hell, not because I’m afraid of rain, bit because I tried for a minute and got soaked. Really soaked. Hopefully it’ll stop raining soon and I can carry out all my plans of setting myself up here.
I got to LA yesterday early afternoon. And my buddy Demian picked me up from LAX. It was really on a whim that I decided to come here. I didn’t want to stay in Chicago anymore, and by the way things ended with Emily I didn’t think it would have been a good idea anyway.
We immediately went to school of rock. I met a bunch of people and saw Jody, whom played bass with me and Sylvain when we came in 09. I managed to be able to get a gig subbing, starting Thursday.
I was terrified because I didn’t know where I was going to stay, but I called Bill Mori, a friend of Sylvain, and he offered me a couch for a couple of days.
His place is amazing. It really is a rock and roll museum. Laminates hanging from everywhere, signed books, pictures, records, VHS bootlegs from the bands themselves…
We stayed up talking about everyone we look up to in music. He told me about knowing “killer” Kane and how Johnny Ramone would just like to talk about baseball. Our stories meet in weird places, like we were at the Randalls island at the same festival, me with The Charms and him with Clem Burke (whom was playing with Nancy Sinatra) and how we both took pictures with Pete Best.
It is always great to hear stories about people you look up to, and how they are so human, and they have some of the same challenges and insecurities as us.
I can really think about that in this new journey. Who knows what will happen? But I can work and persevere to make sure that someday someone gives a shit enough to sit and talk about me.
